Robert Glen/Sue Stolberger Exhibition

The Wildlife of Africa with Wildlife Sculptor
Rob Glen and Artist Sue Stolberger
Kenya and Tanzania's Ruaha National Park

April 22- 29, 2010

Please join the Houston Zoo for a special exhibition as we welcome Sculptor Robert Glen and Artist Sue Stolberger for a weeklong event: The Wildlife of Africa

Both Robert and Sue hold a special place in their hearts for Ruaha National Park, Tanzania. As their home for many years, this vast area of virtually untouched wilderness teems with wildlife and stunning scenery, providing endless inspiration and motivation for the artists.

Robert Glen has always been fascinated with wildlife and tribal people, passions reflected in his striking artwork. Born in Kenya and acquiring an early interest for natural history, Robert is a life-long student of Africa. His work has met with great success worldwide and is represented in many private collections. He has lived with nomadic camel herders in northern Kenya and in the most remote game parks throughout East Africa, but for the past 16 years Glen has lived and worked in Ruaha National Park, Tanzania, where he studies and sculpts in the bush. Closer to home, you will also recognize him as the creator of the Mustangs at Las Colinas – the amazing life-size stampede running through a Dallas area plaza.

Sue Stolberger works and lives permanently in the field, and has lived under canvas for nearly 30 years. Her work has taken her to many of the National Parks and beautiful, remote areas of Tanzania and Kenya. In addition to birds and wildlife, she spent two years living with and painting scenes of the nomad Somalis and their camels, and has spent months alongside the Maasai and Samburu tribes people making several collections of paintings for exhibition. Since 1994, Sue has lived and worked in Ruaha National Park in Southern Tanzania. Her studio is a camp on the banks of the Great Ruaha River. She finds the peace and solitude of the remote area not only conducive to painting but the best way to learn and observe from the vast array of wildlife that surrounds her home. She sketches prolifically, and never ceases to be inspired and enthralled by the diversity of light, color, patterns and designs that nature conjures up.
