IMPORTANT INFORMATION
About Your Next Houston Zoo Field Trip!
Big changes are happening to the Zoo’s front entry plaza NOW.
Please read this information if you are bringing students on a spring field trip to the Houston Zoo in April or May. If you are not leading your students on their spring field trip this year, please forward this message to the person who will be organizing the trip.
Construction has started in the plaza area in front of the Houston Zoo’s main admission gate.
The plaza area will NOT be accessible to the public.
The plaza area has been the staging point to bring school groups into the Zoo. The start of plaza construction means the field trip staging area will be relocated for the duration of the project.
At the Houston Zoo it is our goal to ensure that every school field trip is a fun and educational experience. The information below is designed to facilitate quick and efficient entry into the Zoo for your field trip group.
BEFORE YOU ARRIVE
- Make your trip reservation three weeks in advance of your arrival date.
- Obtain your tickets – for students and chaperones - before the date of your field trip.
- Entry into the Zoo will be expedited if you arrive with tickets in hand.
- Know how many people are in your group – both students and chaperones.
- Identify a contact person for your group.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE
The Zoo’s front entry plaza will be blocked off by construction safety fencing. A Safe Pathway to the new field trip staging area has been designated. Zoo Rangers will identify the entrance to the Safe Pathway.
Except for special needs students, buses MUST unload students and chaperones in Lot B.
PLEASE follow Zoo Rangers directions to the new designated staging area.
Upon arrival Zoo Rangers will need the following information:
- How many people are in your group?
- Who is the contact person for your group?
- Is the contact person on the bus?
- Will you need to pick up tickets before entering the Zoo?
Do you need extra tickets for chaperones?
