A Home for All - Habitats and Ecosystems:
We all live in some kind of habitat. Learn the difference between habitats and ecosystems and how to use them in a cross disciplinary setting in the classroom. Find out conservations efforts on specific habitats. Use the zoo as a guide and reference for learning about these habitats and ecosystems.

An Educator Wild Wink:
This overnight experience allows you to see the Zoo’s residents in a whole new “light.” Enjoy what nature and the Zoo has to offer while tenting camping on zoo grounds. Dress for the weather and prepare to participate in interactive, educational activities; guided walks; wild animal encounters; and live, touchable animals. Dinner and continental breakfast included. We will be assigning two people to each 4-person tent.

Year of the Frog:
The Association of Zoos and Aquariums has highlighted 2008 as the Year of the Frog. This workshop will take a three prong approach to teaching you about the global amphibian situation: general amphibian diversity and biology; Panama, chytrid, and field research; and local species and conservation. You will leave with a variety of activities and a lot more content to take back to your students.

Lights, camera, conserve!!!  In order to preserve the one and only planet we have, we must first learn how conservation affects us personally. We will discuss ways we can convey the importance of protecting our planet to our students, but of course we’ll do activities and have fun while doing it!

Animals come in all shapes, sizes, colors and patterns. Join us as we examine how animals from A to Z can be used to teach a variety of different subjects, not just science. We will use some of our favorite animal children's books as well as the real animals themselves.

What exactly is classification and why do we need to classify animals? Take a trip back to the past to learn about classifying animals and how it has gone from a simple to a more complex system. Gain different ways to explain classification and see how we use classification in everyday life.

It is a new zoo everyday which makes working at the Houston Zoo a fun and exciting job. We work with the plants, animals, people and the general upkeep of the zoo. This will give you great ideas to inspire your students to find out what they could someday do at many other zoological or nature facilities in the country.

Creature Calculations:
Make math a littler wilder by discovering how to incorporate fun animal facts and trivia into graphing, measuring, word problems, and more. Learn how to use just a “fraction” of the zoo to create a whole math lesson, activity, or curriculum for your classroom. This workshop will keep your undivided attention!

Texas has it all: deserts, piney woods, coastal wetlands, prairies, and much more. And it's not just you and me who live here. This "trip" will take you across the state learning about some of the plants, birds, mammals, reptiles and other organisms that call these Texas habitats home.
