A Wild Success
Houston Zoo’s Walk for the Wild presented by Bank of Texas Exceeds Fundraising Goal
The Houston Zoo welcomed over 1,000 animal lovers and conservation advocates during this year’s Walk for the Wild 5k presented by Bank of Texas in a shared commitment to save wildlife. On Sunday, April 6, the event surpassed its fundraising goal raising more than $193,000 to help the Zoo’s conservation efforts near and far; from rehabilitating and releasing stranded sea turtles along the Texas Gulf Coast to planting more than 300,000 trees in Borneo to help rebuild the habitat of wild orangutans.
Friends and families walked through the 55 acres of the scenic Zoo grounds for a day of fun and philanthropy. Along the way, 5k participants took in the sights and sounds of the endangered species they are helping to save. Funds raised during the 5k support the Zoo’s 33 conservation partners in 19 countries and their efforts to save local wild animals. Generous support was provided by presenting sponsor Bank of Texas and leading sponsors Gallery Furniture, Children’s Memorial Hermann, Pillsbury Law, Xtreme Furniture Repair, Boardwalk Pipelines and ABC Home & Commercial Services. At the After Party, guests enjoyed cookies donated by Michael’s Cookie Jar and a breakfast buffet. Guests met the Zoo’s ambassador animals and learned from Zoo staff about the organization’s conservation and education programs.
Walk for the Wild 5k first began in 2021 and has since grown into one of the Zoo’s most impactful community events. Each year the event attracts hundreds of families and animal lovers who help raise awareness and support for the Zoo’s wildlife conservation efforts and its partners. Since its inception, Walk for the Wild has raised more than $730,000 staying true to the Zoo’s mission to connect communities with animals, inspiring action to save wildlife.
Each visit to the Houston Zoo helps save animals in the wild. A portion of each admission and membership supports the Zoo’s conservation programs.
