Earth Day at the Zoo

Earth Day

First began in 1970, Earth Day was a way to bring environmental issues into public consciousness. It is now celebrated internationally with coordinated events across nearly 200 countries. This Earth Day, celebrate with the Houston Zoo as we unveil the grand opening of our new Wildlife Workshop.

Event Activities

The former Swap Shop space has been reimagined into a physical space for all ages where guests can come to collaborate, learn, celebrate, and share wildlife-saving behaviors.

To highlight the importance of Earth Day, hands-on activities will include:

  • Birding 101 activity with Zoo Crew at North American aviary inside of the Fondren Foundation Birds of the World exhibit
  • Plant propagation at the Kathrine G. McGovern Texas Wetlands habitat
  • Create window clings to prevent birds collisions with windows at Texas Wetlands overlook
  • Design bird nest starters to help make bird homes safe inside Wildlife Workshop
